Polycarbonate (PC) (Lexan ®)*

Polycarbonate is known for its low flammability and high impact strength. The most common form of PC is formed through a reaction of bispenol A (BPA) and phosgene, though other forms created through different reactions do exist.

Lexan ® is the trademarked brand name for SABIC Innovative Plastics' PC resin, and is another commonly used name for referencing this material.

It is used for cases, helmets, musical instrument cases, windshields, safety glasses, and other protective coverings where impact strength is a necessity. A very popular use for Polycarbonate is as a base material for some cellphone housings and cases.

PC is only fairly resistant to solvents and harsh chemicals, and can be subject to stress cracking depending on structural design and environmental conditions. It can be UV stabilized with additives, and is frequently used in the production of lenses for glasses and sunglasses.

We can manufacture FDA compliant Polycarbonate to fit your product's needs.
