Nylon (Polyamide)

Nylon (Polyamide) is a thermoplastic material that can be extruded or injection molded. It is highly resistant to abrasion and wear, and is used frequently in parts for machinery where other materials would break after repetitive use. In general, Nylon is resistant to most chemicals, and has a low permeability to gasses. Elevated levels of heat (above 318°F) cause Nylon to soften, but additives may be used to alter this temperature.

UV stabilizers must be added in order for Nylon to withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight. Also, Nylon absorbs moisture which alters dimensional stability, so be sure to take into account dimension changes in humid conditions.

Many industries use Nylon, including automotive, clothing, commercial fishing, industrial and consumer machinery, and electronics.

There are different variations of Nylon chains available (Nylon 6, Nylon 6,6, Nylon 11, Nylon 12, Nylon 6, 12), and each type has its own peculiar qualities. If you need help determining what kind of Nylon you would like to use, please contact us at 800-452-5533 and we will gladly assist you.
