Acrylic (Plexiglas ®)*

Acrylic is a thermoplastic material that has significant optical clarity. Because of its clarity or transparency, it is commonly used for display cases, covers, or other barriers where a clear, distortion-free view is necessary. Also, acrylic is not very sensitive to ultraviolet radiation, so it is commonly used outdoors where sunlight would damage other types of plastic materials.

However, Acrylic is not used in situations where flexibility is needed, as it does not flex well, especially if notched (Notched IZOD .275 - 1.10 lb/in).

If you are intending for your product to endure sunny environments or serve as a protective barrier or cover, Acrylic may be a good choice for you. If you want something that is a little more flexible but can still provide some degree of optical clarity, try reading about Rigid Polyvinyl Chloride (RPVC), Polycarbonate (PC), or Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (CAB).
